Ladies, I have a great news for all of you. Here is yet another benefit of being single that you can talk about in your upcoming conversations. For so long, we’ve been told that women crave relationships and that we need a relationship. For much of the history of the world, we’ve been advised to get married and have children, to build our household. And today, we’ve been told that we are dealing with commitment issues, “fear of intimacy,” communication problems, etc. For some reason, everyone thinks there is a particular reason we are single rather than just accepting that it is a choice. So, here is a newsflash for those that think we need a relationship and an awesome benefit for ourselves. 

A benefit of being single is that you can possibly be HEALTHIER!

Yes, you heard me right, we can be more powerful, sometimes even in comparison to the male species. According to studies, a woman can become mentally and physically stronger, healthier and more confident especially if she is single.  

I am not saying that getting married, having kids, and building relationships damage where we stand as a woman or that they are bad for our well being. There is no doubt that being in a relationship also has incredible health benefits. But, I want to make sure that you know that if we are single, and if we want to stay that way, there is nothing to worry about. We can be single, proud and healthy. I mean, honestly, isn’t it great to add another benefit to that Pros Cons list?

Being single is better for our weight and BMI.

This surely is not a surprise. It is known that in a comfortable relationship many times, women stop their self-care. Feeling secure and accepted at all times can easily make us care less about our bodies. Hence, sometimes, we eat and sit more, and are less active and exercise less.

On the other hand, the idea of being out there, exposed to new people and adventures, give us more motivation. We work out and eat healthier, have our own schedule and sometimes can even become more successful. Especially after menopause, taking care of our weight can decrease blood pressure and heart risks in women.

Being single makes us more resilient.

As single women, when we face problems, deadlines or stress we tend to deal with them more easily. That’s definitely a benefit of being single because we have learned how to handle things ourselves. We might want or need help from a friend or a relative but usually have more knowledge of solving issues by ourselves. This also provides us with more independence. And, well independence is power.

Being single increases productivity, creativity and social connections.

Think about the times when you come up with ideas, usually when you are all alone, right? Solitude usually makes people more creative, and that is a known benefit of being single through history. If we have more me-time physically, we tend to meditate and/or use our mindset differently. Obviously, a lot of women in relationship easily do this too, all we are saying is being single does give us more me-time. We explore and learn new things when we are single. So it’s easier for single people to get more creative, and productive, which is a benefit of being single for our careers.

Moreover, being single encourages us to socialize, to go out and meet new people; to keep in touch with family, and friends. We connect to more than one person. If you feel good in your own skin, you feel self-sufficient. You accept yourself as an individual; you appreciate the person you are.

Being single does not mean that you are alone.

 

It means that you are probably more active than your couple friends, more independent, more social, more productive and more creative. And a benefit of being single is also that you are more aware and more informed. Being more informed leads us to make better choices for our health. Truth is, you might be taking care of yourself much better than most of the people do if you are single. There are even certain studies that say so.
