If you are a single millennial you have probably either used a dating app or better yet, your friends recommended you to use one. We all know that digital is the future and dating apps are just one of the many digital innovations. Social media has become such an important part of our daily lives. It’s almost impossible to not scroll through your feeds at least once during the day. And chances are you are probably doing it a lot more often. We cannot ignore how social media affects mental health even if it has many benefits. Social media addiction is a real thing and more and more young people are coming under the influence of it. So much so that a lot of the younger generation is constantly trying to reduce screen time.
Mental health has been seen to be directly influencing mental health. This is the reason why a lot of the current generation takes “social media detox.” Social media started as a simple means to communicate but as the communities grow bigger, a lot of hate and toxicity is visible. It’s actually energy draining to see all the time people use simply to write hateful things on the internet. But, the toxicity of social media is not the only reasons millennials have been trying to limit screen time.
Actually, a lot of millennials are working on their spiritual wellbeing.
And the truth is, it’s a lot easier to focus on what is within you without having the rest of the world judging you. Limiting screen time in the morning, for example, has been consistently recommended by spiritual as well as business leaders. They all believe that morning should consist of meditation where you allow yourself to disconnect from the outer world. So, basically, being too consumed in social media is pretty shitty for you. Even relationships suffer on social media. Sometimes through the judgment of others, while other times because we try to keep-up dating profiles. Also, am I the only one who has never used a dating app?
But, in this world where it has become so hard not to double tap every 5 minutes, what are the leading digital innovators doing?
Well, we don’t know about all social media but Bumble has definitely come up with an amazing way to help mental health through social media. So, what is Bumble? Possibly the best social interaction app you will come across; it has a dating app, a BFF app, and even an app to meet different business people. Basically, a very well thought out social media for the current generation. Bumble is famous for many things, like its feature of women being allowed to make the first step. Moreover, Bumble also has a record for taking complaints very serious. Bumble many times has called out men for bad behavior on their social media and even banned them from using the ap. Overall, one of the safest zones for women to try and find a partner.
But, you must be wondering “Girl what is Bumble’s new feature?”
The feature is “Snooze” and you can use it to take a break from Bumble. It lets you be temporarily un-swipeable and informs existing matches that you are taking a break. This feature is amazing as lots of times social media is overwhelming and features like this allow one to zone-out. I don’t know about you but constantly deactivating my Facebook and Instagram accounts or deleting Whatsapp can great frustrating. With workload at times, it’s impossible to be available on social media, and it’s very hard not to check it if it’s right in front of you. But, you don’t need to delete Bumble, so it’s a safe zone.
It’s amazing what Whitney, the founder of Bumble, and the amazing Bumble team has come up with. This feature supports mental health in a way no previous app has before. Although this feature could lower engagement metrics for the company, Bumble said it’s more important to take care of the users. We stan a company that protects its users at all costs.
