As a Millennial myself, I know that there are many ways in which we spend our money. Be it ordering takeout or buying a ticket to trek, we love spending money. This is probably why the wellness industry loves millennials. Because, we take our wellness seriously, much more than previous generations do. But what most people don’t know is that we spend more on wellness than we do in college tuition, at least a that’s what a study conducted by MyProtein UK proved.
Not going to lie, ladies, some of those numbers shocked me. No wonder the wellness industry loves millennials so much. A gym membership or intermittent fasting is not wellness to Millennials. The wellness industry loves millennials because we want it all. The athletic apparel, yoga mats, fitness assessments, personal training sessions, meal plans, food trackers, protein shakes, supplements… the list is almost never-ending.
But do you ever wonder why we spend how much we spend on wellness? There must be a reason as to what makes the wellness industry love Millennials so much and trust that they will continue being loyal customers. The reasons are many my Queens, and they are all about our Millennial way of spending.
These are the 3 ways we spend And The Reasons Why The wellness industry loves Millennials
1. Us Millennials use self-tracking: We want to know how many calories we burn
Thanks to technology, we have a great opportunity to learn more about our personal wellness in numbers. Each body is different. Our genetic inheritance, bone structure, body size, and shape is different. Our weight, our organs, and organ systems they all influence our bodies differently. Maybe you are dieting with your friend and you might be eating exact same things as her. While she is losing weight you might be gaining some. The way that your body absorbs the nutrients is different than hers. These differences are usually somewhat known to Millennials.
Therefore, we own a Fitbit or get our fitness assessment at a fitness studio. Millennials are informed customers, some comparisons state that we might be more informed while spending than previous generations. We spend a lot on wellness because we like to be informed while we make our financial choices. Self-tracking is one of the many ways that millennials are investing in their wellness, and these investments are important to us.
2. Millennials love control and the wellness industry loves Millennials
Thanks to the Internet we have limitless access to knowledge. We want control over wellness hence we download apps or read about new health trends. Before going to the doctor’s office, we consult Google (However, we honestly shouldn’t be using Google for symptoms, go to the doc ladies!). Or we download apps we believe will helps us or follow the instruction to buy particular types of products. Which is definitely beneficial to the wellness industry. We are becoming pickier and pickier with whom to trust with our health but we know we can always trust ourselves.
3. We want to experience life
This might be due to social media but Millennials want to collect more and more memories. Sometimes the only reason is to share them with other people. Nevertheless, we love to travel and update status or post on Instagram, for us life is much more than making money and we research proves that time and again. That’s why Millennials look for more flexible hours or seek greater healthcare benefits when choosing between jobs. Moreover, we tend to purchase a lot of things online, and that is inclusive of our wellness be it something as simple as a meditation app or as complex as an insurance policy. Girls, the truth is as a Millennial we have to have time and money for ourselves. We not only care about how many years we live but also how we live those years.
This is why the wellness industry loves Millennials, truth be told, most industries love us. Millennials, we rock, we are carefree women, who are well-informed and we are honestly, living life to the fullest.
